Frequently asked questions

What is Merri?

Merri is a service for planning small social gatherings. A host proposes a gathering, invites people known to them, collects votes on a date and a location, and all participants are reminded once the arrangements are settled. Each gathering is limited to twenty invitees.

Does Merri cost money?

The core platform is free to use. Creating a gathering, inviting people to it, and the features that support them are provided at no cost.

How do I sign in?

Access is by mobile telephone number and a one-time passcode sent to that number by text message. Merri does not use passwords. Sign-in passcodes are sent whenever one is requested, irrespective of any other message preference recorded on the account.

What text messages does Merri send?

Merri sends an invitation when a host invites you to a gathering, a confirmation when that host settles the date and location, and a reminder shortly before the gathering begins. Merri does not send marketing or promotional messages, and does not send messages on behalf of third parties.

Message frequency varies according to the number of gatherings you participate in. Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan. Not all mobile carriers are supported.

Do I have to agree to the text messages?

No. The consent box presented during sign-up is optional and is not selected for you. An account created without it functions in full, and no gathering messages are sent to that number. Consent may be given at a later time, and withdrawn at any time, from the settings on your profile page.

How do I stop the text messages?

Reply STOP to any Merri message, disable the messages from the settings on your profile page, or send a request by email, which will be actioned on your behalf. Reply HELP to any message to receive assistance.

Messages stopped by replying STOP may be resumed only by replying START from the same handset. That opt-out is held by our telecommunications provider and cannot be reversed by Merri.

Who can see my gatherings?

Other participants in a gathering can see your display name, your attendance response, your votes, and any answers you provide to questions the host has designated as visible to all attendees. Your friend groups and contact labels are not disclosed to other users.

What is done with my information?

Your telephone number is used to authenticate you and to send the messages described above. Personal information is not sold, and is not shared for advertising purposes. The privacy policy sets out what is collected, which service providers process it, and where it is stored.

You may request a copy of the personal information held about you, request its correction, or request deletion of your account, by email.

How can I contact Merri?

Enquiries concerning the service, requests concerning your personal information, requests for deletion of an account, and requests to stop text messages may be sent to merri.app@gmail.com. Correspondence is monitored, and a response is provided within thirty days of receipt.
